QR Codes and NFC | Turn looking into leads!

Implemented correctly, QR and NFC codes, otherwise known as 'Tags', can revolutionise  your business through mobile marketing campaign management.

For a quick overview of QR codes and NFC tags see the videos on the campaigns page .

If you are viewing this on a large screen or have a smart device handy, scan this QR code (if you need help downloading a QR scanner, see the links on the right) and see how you are taken first to our fully customisable template and then invited to visit our website. When you click the 'Visit our Website' button, you will be taken to exactly the same website as the desktop version. It has simply adapted itself to display the same content in any device. Note that we have not required any opt-in information. However, if you require opt-in data for lead generation purposes, you simply adapt the template and the management interface geo-tags all collected data.

TagItScanIt builds websites with mobile users in mind and our unique TAG+ mobile campaign management is ready to help you adapt to the changing business world.

  • NFC is hear to stay. Contacless payment is becoming the norm. In the UK, the Post Office and London Underground are leading the way.
  • QR is also hear to stay. NFC is only useful within 10 cm of the object you are scanning. If you need to scan things at a distance, for example  real estate signs at first floor level, QR codes can be enlarged to any required size.
  • TagItScanIt is the only mobile marketing company to incorporate both NFC AND  totally re-usable and assignable QR Codes with full branding, campaign management (forms, opt-in user data etc) and ROI metrics - otherwise known as 'TAG +'.
  • Oakley has already used our retail QR codes.
  • Our TAG + codes do not go out of date and are entirely re-usable so you will never again have to destroy printed materials containing old fashioned, standard QR codes.  You simply re-assign our TAG+ codes when the current campaign expires.
  • We can combine our QR codes with NFC (Near Field Communication) tags like the 'Oyster' tickets used on the London Underground.
  • Real Estate professionals can also benefit from our own mobile and social network optimised property portal, PropertyMutual.co.uk.

Why Use Our Tags?

Track Record

For over 20 years, the TagItScanIt team have been providing innovative technological solutions for well known brands such as Bacardi, Barclays Capital, Deutche Bank, DLA Piper, Genesys, Micro Focus, NCSM, New Holland (Fiat-Hitachi), Novotel and Reuters, as well as a host of smaller but equally well respected clients.

Some of our clients

Our latest QR code and NFC (Near Field Communication) tags provide campaign marketing tools to businesses like you that love your customers and want to provide them with a world class customer experience. We do this by enabling you to automatically provide immediate responses to your customers' enquiries on their Smart phone or mobile device. By capturing customer contact information, we also provide you with valuable data about your customers.

Of the 1.35 billion mobile phones in EMEA, over 50% of them are Smartphones, and 25% of consumers are more likely to respond to an ad if it included a response cue, such as a QR code (source: Ofcom's Communication Market Report, Feb 2012). QR codes provide a quick and fun way for you to communicate with your clients, and for them to communicate back to you.

Unlock The Potential of QR & NFC Tags

Case Study | Oakley

Oakley are an innovative and aspiration global brand, retailing sunglasses, eye-wear and fashion apparel in the dynamic fashion and youth market. They need to know their customers and want to communicate directly with them in a highly targeted manner.

Oakley Use our QR Codes

During March and April 2012 they ran a QR driven marketing campaign in one high street location, requesting customer contact data and information via a short survey questionnaire in return for access to brand information. Each month they received 2,000 qualified contacts from the in store QR code promotions, so that by the end of the second month they had over 4,500 detailed, unique new potential customers to directly target their products to, by age, location, style, gender and fashion preferences.

The success of this initial campaign has led to the go ahead for a UK wide then European wide roll-out of QR driven campaigns across all major outlets, as well as the use of QR codes to reward customer loyalty with special Olympic themed events.

Full Service Product

Physical Property

Creating TAG + codes using our management interface is only half the story.

QR codes can be printed either as part of the content of a sign-board or as an additional board that can be added to a professional's existing stock, posters or other printed material.

If you are a real estate professional, (or selling ANY physical property such as our Yacht Broker clients) our system can manage that process for you so all you have to do is assign the codes and then wait for the boards to be delivered.

One possible Use - TAG+ Board

Virtual Property

If your interest lies with another market sector, or if you are marketing virtual property (i.e. on billboards or an online store), we can swiftly create custom solutions, including a full online store similar but superior to the one shown on the video clip on this page.

Re-usable Tags

Never throw away printed material with out-of-date QR codes.

All our QR codes can be re-assigned indefinitely using our custom management portal.

For the Real Estate market, our management portal is accessible via the main PropertyMutual.co.uk website, or via smartphone in the field so the property professional or their sign-board contractor can re-assign codes in the field.

Our Property Marketing TAG+ Board

If you require sign boards, they are completely re-usable (subject to fair wear and tear) and can have campaign codes re-assigned to them on the fly.

For other markets, such as exhibition stands and banners, custom management portals are available, accessed either by standard website, or via smartphone in the field so campaign codes can be re-assigned in the field.

Tell me about NFC

We can enhance the reach of your mobile marketing campaigns by adding NFC tags to our QR tags.

Near field communication (NFC) is a set of standards for smartphones and similar devices to establish radio communication with each other by touching them together or bringing them into close proximity, usually no more than a few centimetres. Communication is also possible between an NFC device and an unpowered NFC chip, called a "tag".

For a quick overview of QR codes and NFC tags see the videos on the campaigns page.

NFC Logo

NFC devices can be used in contactless payment systems, similar to those currently used in credit cards and electronic ticket smartcards, and allow mobile payment to replace or supplement these systems. For example, Android and iOS allows consumers to store credit card information in a virtual wallet and then use an NFC-enabled device at terminals that also accept MasterCard PayPass transactions.

NFC enabled smartphones will soon become industry standard and many anticipate that the rise of NFC in commerce will lead to the eventual death of the currently popular Chip and PIN system. The 'Oyster' cards in common use on The London Underground use NFC, and China is using it all over the country in public bus transport. In India NFC based transaction is being implemented in box offices for ticketing purposes.

Our TAG+ Board

  • NFC technology is being rolled out to smartphones worldwide. For example, the Windows 8 Nokia Lumia models have in-built NFC.
  • Simply holding your smartphone within 10 centimeters of one of our NFC tags will initiate the interaction.

The area at the bottom of our TAG+ board, with the hand and Smartphone positioned over the radiating circles, is the NFC contact point.

General Purpose TAG+ Board

Some uses of NFC (Source: Wikipedia):

  • Matching encrypted security code and transporting access key;
  • Due to short transmission range, NFC-based transactions are possibly secure;
  • Instant payments and coupon delivery using your handset, as we do with your credit card or debit card;
  • Exchange of information such as schedules, maps, business card and coupon delivery in a few hundred milliseconds;
  • Pay for items just by waving your phone over the NFC capable devices
  • Transferring images, posters for displaying and printing

QR & NFC Tag Enabled Mobile Campaign Management

The unique TagItScanIt mobile TAG + service gives practically any business the ability to create and send out classified listings or adverts via QR & NFC Tags to potential buyers’ smartphones.

This is an example of a QR code enlarged, printed on a banner and displayed on the side of a building.  This shows the advantage of QR codes over NFC (Near Field Communication) technology i.e. they can be scanned from a distance, even at first floor level.  We can supply QR codes of any size and they are proving of particular interest to the commercial real estate market where sign boards are often placed higher than street level.

Enlarged QR Code on building. NFC does not work in this scenario.

QR & NFC Tag Enabled Mobile Campaign Management

Enlarged QR at 1st Floor for scanning from ground level

TAG + can be easily incorporated into an existing business.  We are already supplying our TAG + QR and NFC boards to the real estate industry, either as a supplementary board added beneath an Estate Agent's standard 'For Sale' sign board, or as a separate QR code banner or sticker.  This enables the user to carry on using their existing sign board stock until they are ready to replace old boards with new ones which have been re-designed to incorporate the TAG + in a single board. If access is required at street level (i.e. for NFC) our boards will still be required.

Commercial Realtor - Enlarged TAG+ for scanning from street level. NFC does not work in this scenario.

The TagItScanIt service wraps QR codes in our campaign management software, allowing:

  • Instant access to TAG + enabled web pages
  • Personalised promotions
  • Increased reach
  • Enables customers
  • Empowers businesses

This enables businesses to have REAL TIME AWARENESS of their customers:

  • Patterns
  • Preferences
  • Needs

giving the ability to proactively provide customers with:

  • Products
  • Promotions
  • Personalised Service

it also allows them to:

  • Open new markets
  • Innovate their sales and marketing programmes
  • Interact with customers on a personal level
  • Encourage sales anywhere, anytime
  • Enable impulse purchases or opt-ins of promotional material
  • Receive immediate email confirmation

Where can you use PropertyPortal-Group.com QR and NFC Tags?

Case Study - Real Estate

QR and NFC Tags can be used literally anywhere. The video clips, and example TAG + on this page just skim the surface of all possible applications.

The first practical application for our technology has been in the real estate market where we add our TAG+ boards to the bottom of estate agents' sign boards, or replace them, for easy access for NFC contact and QR scanning.

Of course, the agent can integrate our design into their boards, as well as print our QR codes on their other marketing materials. Our TAG+ real estate customers also benefit from automatic integration with our leading property portal, PropertyMutual.co.uk.

The possible uses of our TAG + codes, and market sectors to which they can apply, are only limited by the imagination. We already have Oakley using our QR tags in the UK and Europe.

Realtor/Estate Agent using TAG+
Example - Real Estate

  • One house 'For Sale' (i.e. one campaign),
  • 3 active tags leading to the same campaign
    • 1 TAG + board (incorporating QR code and NFC tag) under or on the For Sale board
    • 1 TAG + code printed in the Local Press
    • 1 TAG + code printed in the estate agents window
  • Membership of PropertyPortal.com is necessary in order to link codes to your listings. Includes opt-in user data, and UNLIMITED listings of ALL the realtor's properties on PropertyPortal.com, the world's only RICS regulated Property Portal
  • Full ROI metrics enable the property professional to identify qualified leads (opted in user data - name , address, email) from each TAG + and identify the most profitable channel
  • Imagine the For Sale board TAG + has received 25 scans and viewings of the mobile optimised property listing but no appointments have been made to view the property.  Also, no viewer has been interested enough to proceed beyond the landing page and opt-in their personal details to gain access to the detailed listing. This may suggest that the professional needs a discussion with the vendor about asking price or other potential barriers to sale.

Case Study - Yacht Broker

Retail TAG+ in for Yacht Broker
Retail TAG+ in for Yacht Broker
  • One yacht to sell (i.e. one campaign),
  • 3 active tags leading to the same campaign
    • 1 TAG + on the For Sale board on the yacht
    • 1 TAG + code in the Sailing Press
    • 1 TAG + in the yacht brokers window
  • NO monthly subscription fee

Case Study - Car Sales

Retail TAG+ in Car Sales
Retail TAG+ in Car Sales
  • One TAG+ board hung in windscreen (i.e. one campaign).
  • QR code scannable and NFC contact point accessible through windscreen.
  • Vendor can give the potential purchaser access to as much or as little marketing material (mini specifications, video clips) or documentation as needed.
  • Total flexibility about how you create the mobile campaign behind the QR tag.

If you would like to discuss using our TAG + codes for your business, please contact us.

Q1. What is the difference between a 'true' and 'false' scan?

When someone (aka "Prospect") scans a QR code, the sequence of events is:

  1. Prospect starts QR app on their Smartphone, and scans the QR Code
  2. QR Scanning s/w scans and resolves QR code and puts a message on the screen "Open Link http://ti.ag/action/RT09... Yes/No" (or similar)
  3. Prospect may click "No", Smartphone will go back to default mode.
  4. If Prospect clicks "Yes", the Smartphone opens its browser and points at the QR Code Landing Page.
  5. Landing Page can ask Prospect to enter some data ("name, email, phone no." etc) and asks Prospect to click on the "URL label" (user defined when you create landing page, e.g. "Click here for more info").
  6. If URL label is not clicked, Smartphone will go back to default mode.
  7. If URL label is clicked, the Smartphone browser is re-directed to the Campaign Action URL (Create Campaign -> Action Fields -> URL)
  8. Prospect sees Client webpage

So, in the above, a Scan is labeled as "False" if the Prospect stops the interaction before step 7. It is labeled as "True" only if step 7 happens. The above process flow is consistent across all Smartphones.

Q2. How does the Tag use location data?

a) The three main variables are phone settings, phone browser setting and cookie settings.

b) If the phone is set to disable location services, no location data is sent back to us (or any other service).

c) The phone browser setting can be:

c-i) "Always decline location service requests",

c-ii) "Ask for permission each time a location service request is made" and

c-iii) "Always accept location service requests".

d) In case c-ii only, the Prospect will see an additional question at Step 2 in Q.1 above - "This app is requesting location data. Send location data Yes /No" (or similar)

e) Cookies may have been disabled. If cookies are enabled, then User data previously entered will be displayed.

As long as the phone is set to provide location data (b & c-iii, or Yes to d), then we collect location data when at 2 in Q1. above. ie when the QR code is scanned. However, we only publish the location data on the Campaign Report for True Scans (i.e. if Prospect gets to step 7).

Q3. Businesses | How do I manage my TAG + QR Code listings?

  • We have created a custom platform that is usable either from our website or out in the field via a smartphone.
  • The platform allows the business or your agent to access the management platform in the field and change the destination of the TAG + (assign a different campaign) on the fly.

Q4. What's an "Enhanced QR code" | Why is it better than a regular one?

An enhanced or designed QR code is more than a generic formation of black boxes. It is designed to engage the end user and can represent your brand or company style. It personalizes the buyer's experience before they even meet you.

We call our campaign management enhanced QR Code services 'TAG +'. The videos on this page give an engaging and visual explanation of why you need our technology with your TAG + codes.

Q5. How do TAG + codes improve my ability to market my properties?

They're simple, direct lines of communication, reducing paper by getting information to your buyers electronically.

You can:

  • add them to your sign boards
  • send them in an email
  • share them on your social network or blog
  • print them on stickers
  • print them on clothing
  • print them on mugs and other giveaway merchandise
  • put them in a print ad
  • put them on a billboard
  • or put them anywhere people could benefit from viewing your business information on their mobile phones!

Q6. What is different about TagItScanIt's TAG + service?

Case Study - Real Estate:

Common criticisms of standard, QR codes for real estate agents are:

  • "Not sure the service adds long term value for the property professionals who use it".
  • "It puts the focus on each property for sale instead of the property professional and their brand".
  • "It doesn’t achieve the secondary objective which is we’re also branding ourselves and building an online community around ourselves".
  • "Once that listing is gone there's nothing you can build your brand upon".
  • "I still have to pay extra to list my property on a property portal".

Some of our competitors enable a customer to scan QR codes on real estate signs, but it goes to a regular (brokerage) Web site, which is a nightmare to navigate on a small screen. TagItScanIt's campaign management TAG + codes eliminate all these concerns because:

  • Only we offer complete customisation of mobile branding
  • Only we have re-usable tags integrated into a leading property portal - see below
  • TagItScanIt's TAG + service drives traffic to more specific content in a format that's designed especially for smartphones.
  • For a small additional monthly subscription, Real Estate customers can benefit from tight integration and list at the same time to our mobile and social network optimised portal, PropertyMutual.co.uk.

Q7. What's the difference between a standard website and a mobile optimised site?

  • A regular website is a website that is designed to fit within the view of your desktop or laptop computer. It is usually formatted to fit a larger screen.
  • A website that is designed for mobile devices is designed specifically for small screens, such as the screens used on your smartphone or tablet.
  • Websites that are formatted for mobile devices are designed to make the viewing experience easy and understandable for the end user.
  • We build 'responsive' websites so one website fits all devices.

Q8. Why should I bother scanning a QR code; can't I just type in the URL?

  • Why would you? QR codes provide a direct link to information that might otherwise be hidden deep inside a website, or a long URL.
  • Think of QR like a straight line between A and Z, instead of having to navigate through the rest of the alphabet to get to Z.

Q9. How do you support NFC?

  • NFC (Near Field Communications) technology is only just rolling out to smartphones in the UK, but the latest iPhones and Nokia Lumia (Windows 8) phones are NFC enabled.
  • Simply holding your smartphone within 10 centimeteres of one of our NFC tags will initiate the interaction.
  • NFC is already in use in the UK on The London Underground in the form of the 'Oyster' card, and the Post Office is rolling it out to all it's branches.

Q10. How do I scan?

  • Select the "Scan" button and center a barcode within the outlined window.
  • Hold your phone parallel to the surface you're scanning and ensure the barcode is well lit & clearly visible.
  • If scanning a reflective surface ensure there is no glare on the barcode.
  • Once the barcode is captured you will be directed to the barcode's respective page.

Q11. How do I get TagItScanIt Real Estate TAG + Codes?

TagItScanIt TAG + Codes are only available to our subscribers.
